Slow Rolling Spinnerbaits For Bass

Crankbaits with longer bills run deeper and have a wider wobble than lures with small bills. For better depth control, use a lighter weight line, but not too light, at least 10 pound test or better.
Slow rolling a spinnerbait in early spring can produced many trophy LMB. In a nutshell, the method consists of simply retrieving a spinnerbait slowly, near the bottom. Common depths for slow rolling in the spring range 1 from 3 to 12 feet, but you can work these lures effectively to depths of 25 feet.
The most popular spinnerbaits for slow rolling are 1/2- to 1-ounce heads with large willow leaf blades preceded by smaller Colorado or Indiana blades. When retrieved slowly, the blades spin just fast enough to turn over. The slow pace appeals to big, pre-spawn bass and lets the lure get down where the bass are feeding. When slow rolling a spinnerbait, slow roll over and through cover on small points in protected bays and along steep banks. When fishing weeds, concentrate on points and edges along underwater weed lines.
