1000s of pheasants move onto Glastonbury street

Glastonbury, Conn. (WTNH) – One of the biggest pheasant farms in the state is still trying to round up thousands of birds that escaped in the storm.
The heavy snow from the storm ripped open some of the pens at a big pheasant farm in Glastonbury.
Tens of thousands of dollars worth of birds got out and now a lot of them are wandering a residential neighborhood.

There are wring-neck pheasant are everywhere.
Lucy Gomez said, “I see hundred of them.”
According to state Department of Agriculture, the Glastonbury Pheasant Farm, owned by John Jiovio, lost more than 4,000 birds after the heavy, wet snow from the nor’easter broke some of the birds pens, setting them loose.
The estimated loss to the farmer is tens of thousands of dollars. The life expectancy of the animals in the wild isn’t very long.
The State Department of Agriculture said a total of three pheasant farms in the state sustained damages after the storm. Losses are estimated at more than $200,000.
