But resident Canadas are a tough nut to crack. You'd think they be an easy bird to bag, but that's not the case.

I've seen resident Canada geese startled by decoys -- as if their little brains had not been programmed to flock. I have a theory that resident geese must first develop that instinct to flock, and they do that in September. Of course, I have little to base my theory on, but I did sleep in a Holiday Inn Express once or twice.

Geese which reside year-round in Oklahoma have become such a nuisance that state wildlife officials are trying to get more hunters interested in the resident season, which runs through Sept. 10.

Goose hunting in WI will be closed Sept. 16-19 and reopened Sept. 20 when regular season rules take effect. All duck and goose hunters must possess a federal waterfowl stamp ($15), state waterfowl stamp ($7) and small-game license ($18). Only approved non-lead shot may be used.
