What signs should a fox trapper look for to tell if any fox are around in the area? To start off with tracks are the prime indicator, and there’s no finer time to scout than after a fresh snowfall. Look for tracks along weedy fences or tree lines. Bushy draws and wood lots are likely places, too. Also check around old farm machinery and large hay bales. Rodents often den in such places, and fox quickly learn where to find the easy meal. Look fox denning sites, such as rocky ledges, for hollows in the roots beneath large trees. When there is no snow, look at bare ground where gates separate pastures or where a small game trail goes under a fence. And finally, ask the local landowners if they have seen any fox in the area. Most farmers are in the field often enough to notice fox activity.

But the best known tool for locating red and or grey fox is by using a game camera. By setting up a game camera in and around the areas described above, you should find out quickly if fox inhabit the area.Below is a video of a fox caught on a game cam.
